About Robert McInnes

Kancho McInnes came from the rough streets of New Zealand to leading one of the worlds largest Martial arts organizations in the world and at the same time build his family businesses.

He started his first Dojo in 1979 in Mayers Park Auckland , his hardcore method of training attracted a strong bread of Martial Artists.

McInnes drew a lot of criticism back in those days due to his strict training where students were expected to give 100% effort both mentally and physically and in each class pushed to both their physical and mental limits.

His dojos continued to grow and with this so did the support form the local community , night clubs, pubs and event promotors called upon McInnes to supply security for there venues. The security business grew to the point where most of the security at night clubs and pubs in the region  was supplied by his organization.

Those that joined his Inner student (Uchideshi) program not only gained employment, but the discipline and commitment to oneself in the dojo over the years developed many great martial artists , businessmen and respected members of the community today.

McInnes said his only disappointment or regret in his life was the loss of one of his students who tragically drowned  while at a training camp when crossing attempting river, in fact McInnes almost died on that same day trying to reach his student .

Those that know McInnes know that he loves and cares for all his students even to this day and the tragedy on that day played heavy on his heart.

At that point in his life McInnes was seriously contemplating giving up Martial arts due to the tragedy ,however his students and following was so big at the time the support he received increased his determination to build his dojo and continue to teach and pass on knowledge.

His Dojo’s continued to grow and his system of teaching slowly be came the norm not just in New Zealand but also around the world.

In his youth McInnes started to become a product of his environment  leading him to some small brushes with the law in the 80’s.

The pub and night club scene back in the 70’s and 80’s was heavily effected by the gang’s meaning it wasn’t always a peaceful environment and often McInnes was involve in altercations as a result of his job as a doorman or bouncer as they were referred to back then .

Despite much fake articles on the internet and social media attacks, on the contrary McInnes has never served a Jail term or been imprisoned ,

Form the late 1980’s McInnes travelled back and forth to Thailand as he believed that if he could adapt the reality of Muay Thai and boxing to his style of martial arts this would be the base to a great evolution of Martial arts.

In 1994 McInnes graded his students of the last intake for the Uchideshi (Inner Students) at his Dojo in Otahuhu New Zealand and handed his dojo’s over to his students and moved permanently Thailand.

His style was easy to teach there as the Thai’s believed in conditioning and the reality of making the martial arts practical.  McInnes learnt from the great Master Khu Yodtong for many years.

McInnes style was now very practical , in fact, so practical he became a official instructor for the Military Police School in Bangkok from 1997-2018 .

In 2007 he was asked to help By Police Col Nopadon the then chief of Police to help with the formation of the new Pattaya Swat team which became a major part of the law enforcement and still is today.

It was in this time that a European reporter infamous for fake news targeted McInnes making up press that McInnes was convicted on weapons related charges and in jail in Thailand which simply was not true.

The fact was, McInnes was in 2010 stopped by immigration while returning from a training exercise , however when the military and Swat verified he was the official instructor and the weapons were official Army weapons no charges were laid nor Did McInnes go to court as some reports stated including a resent a fake wikipedia page.

The Facts are, McInnes has never served a day in jail in his entire life and continued to teach the Military until his retirement in 2018.

When McInnes was asked about all the fake articles his reply was “when you sit at the head of the table , you should expect to be stabbed in the back”.

McInnes has continued to expand his businesses along with his Karate Organization which is now one of the largest in Japan and the world today.

McInnes Believes that its due to all the experiences he has had in his life both good and bad , is the reason he is where he is today and he has learnt from both the good and bad in his life.
